How are values and attitudes conveyed in the film and the fiction? In the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen and the film Becoming Jane influence by Julian Jerr grey, both texts presented ideas of gender, marriage, wealth and mixer circle that shaped the attitudes, values and social etiquette in the early nineteenth century. This suggests that it was a tradition that women were oblige to marry, with or without affected, however this was rebutted by her mother when she says Would you rather be a poor old main, ridiculous, despised and the butt of jokes. This shows that if women were not to marry at all, they would be frowned upon and ridiculed. They were also expected to be compliant and dutiful.
