In your readings this week we learned about social reception (labeling) theory which is the view that people become criminals when labeled as such and when they accept the label as a ad hominem identity. You go away now be able to examine labels stipulation to you, or soul you know, and view how these labels affect your life (or theirs).

I have never been given a negative label but I do know someone that has so I will tell you his story.
When he was born he had to have one of his kidneys removed because of cancer so he was labeled a sickly baby and peasant. He had an overprotective mother because of this. As a matter of fact, she was the one who gave him the label of sickly child.
Since birth he has always been referred to as the sickly one. He couldnt go to summer camp because he was to a fault sickly. He couldnt play Little League because he was too sickly.
He heard this so much that at first he started to rebel.
He got ridiculed by the other kids and it was toughened for him to make friends. After he became a teenager he learned how to make friends with the wrong crowd of teenagers. His parents had divorced by this time. His mother worked the night shift as the head limit at an all night restaurant. When she got home in the mornings she would be dead on her feet but would send him and his brother attain to high school. The school was within walking distance. She would feed them breakfast, give them their lunch money and send them out the door. She assumed that two boys went to school. Her assumption was wrong.
