Description of Theory:
alteration refers to the process and topic whereby thinking and feeling persons as individuals or in groups, aim conscious awareness and choice to create human and environmental integration (Jones & Bartlett, 2010). The conformation level represents life processes and are draw by Roy in three levels: integrated, compensatory, and compromised life processes. Roys Adaptation Model uses coping processes, both innate (genetically acquired) and acquired (learned or actual) to adapt in a manner that achieves optimal health and hearty being. Roys goal for her adaptation model is for the person to preserve integrity while dealing with environmental stimuli. The Roy Adaptation Model consists of and revolves around four main concepts: person, environment, health, and nursing.
Theorys historical background: Roys Adaptation Model was first initiated and create in 1970 as a basis of curriculum at Mt. Saint Marys College.
Her adaptation model was developed when she was challenged by Dorothy Johnson in a seminar to develop a conceptual model for nursing. Roy was a graduate student at the time, and was enrolled at the University of California-Los Angeles. The Roy Adaptation Model is currently one of the most widely used models in nursing to further develop and intend nursing practice. The model is used by hundreds of thousands of nurses in countries all over the world.
