Many people are familiar with the historical name Louis Riel, but some are not certain of heroic actions that made him who he was. Louis Riel was and still is a major part of Canadian history, especially in the Manitoba area. He was the leader of two full scale rebellions and a heroic pictorial matter to the Métis people residing in the Red River Settle handst. Even when Riel was exiled, it did not stop him from returning to his people. Despite the danger and consequences of returning, Riel returned to his homeland to detain the vindication.
There is no doubt that Louis Riel was a great and prestigious leader to the Métis people and helped them stand up for their rights against the Englishmen as being indigenous human beings. After returning to the Red River Settlement from studying law and politics with Rudolphe Laflamme, Riel led the the resistance of the Dominion of Canadas annexation of Ruperts Land (now known as the Prairie provinces, northern Ontario and Quebec, and parts of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut). The Métis were against this annexation because they, being an indigenous people, believed that they should have a say in their future as a country.
The fact that the Dominion of Canada did not consult them or ask them to put their opinion forward, was enough to push them everywhere the edge and create what was known as the Red River Rebellion. From October 1869 to 1870, Riel took it upon himself to moderate control of the Métis resistance and with the undying support of his people, became the chairwoman of the Provincial Government.
During the Red River Rebellion several men volunteered to take aim up arms against Riel and the Métis, a man named doubting Thomas Scott was among them. During a small scale battle Scott was captured by Riels men and was thrown in prison. While Scott was in captivity he would taunt the guards and threaten Riels life.
