Lab Report

MATERIAL PROPERTIES OF STEEL AND CONCRETE
REPORT FROM LABORATORY DEMONSTRATIONS ON twenty-third MARCH 2012
AS PART OF THE UNIT OF STUDY CIVIL2201 geomorphological MECHANICS

ABSTRACT
This report describes a accent sample on steel coupon, and a compression exam on a concrete cylinder. The main fill of the test was to obtain the strain curves for the two materials. Both test orders are described in details on graphs.
From steel fictile coupon test, it was found that the steel exhibited linear elastic behavior, and had a yield stress of approximately 350MPa, an ultimate specialism of 475 MPa, an elastic modulus of 200050 MPa, and a strain at failure of 30%.
small-arm in compression test on a concrete cylinder, it was found that concrete showed highly no-linear ductile behavior, with an ultimate strength of 29MPa, an elastic modulus of 20000-50000MPa, and a strain at failure of 0.53%.
In conclusion, a comparison about ductility, stiffness and strength betwixt steel and concrete is given by result analytic thinking from experiments data (steel tensile coupon test and concrete cylinder compression test).

INTRODUCTION
The aim of this report is to describe tests to investigate the material properties of steel in tension and concrete in compression, and in particular, present the stress-strain curve. And finding out ultimate stress, elastic modulus, yield stress, and strain at failure. In structural mechanics, stress is a...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Orderessay
